This approach could be seen as a logical next step for the IT industry which moved from monolithic mainframe applications in the ‘70s, to a client-server model in the ‘80s and early ‘90s, to fully hosted ‘in the cloud’ applications such as SaaS and Utility Computing in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, and is now entering a new stage of software + services
